Sedation Dentistry…How It Works

Sedation Dentistry in Calgary opens the door to dental health to even the most reluctant, nervous dental patient.  Nobody wants dental treatment, but for most of us, we can muster up the courage to commit to moving forward with treatment. But for some people the thought of sitting in the dental chair can put them in a complete panic attack.

Options are available that allow a nervous patient to experience a great dental appointment and Sedation Dentistry is an option that anxious dental patients are seeking out more and more often.  Sedation dentistry allows patients, who have been putting off visiting the dentist, to move forward with extensive dental treatment and complete work they may have been avoiding. Deferred maintenance, and its consequences, doesn’t just apply to buildings and pipeline operations in Calgary but to those who have ignored dental concerns for an extended period of time.

At Bite Dental in South Calgary, Sedation Dentistry is offered to patients who require help in facing a dental appointment.  Dr. Andy Hoe explains that one of the advantages of Sedation Dentistry is that it allows patients to complete years of ignored treatment in a just a few appointments.

“Because you are completely comfortable we can place crowns or bridges, restore sore gums to good health; whiten yellow or stained teeth, fix cavities or chipped teeth, and much more! People with very busy schedules can get the dental care they need, easily and quickly” Dr. Andy Hoe

How does Sedation Dentistry Work?

During a Sedation appointment you will be given just enough medication to put you in a relaxed state but allowing you to have an awareness to follow commands and be responsive.

Throughout the appointment your vital signs will be closely monitored and no general anesthetic, intravenous tubes or needles are used.

You will be given a small pill to take one hour prior to your dental appointment. You are considered to be unfit to drive and will require someone to escort you to your appointment and home and to stay with you for the remainder of the day.

When you arrive at the dental office you are made comfortable in a treatment area, with a warm blanket, and monitored for drowsiness. Once you have reached a relaxed state dental treatment can begin.

It is normal for patients to be pain free throughout the procedure due to the relaxed state and use of local anesthetic.

As for remembering your dental appointment – you will have an awareness of what occurred but no real memory of details.  This means release from any associated stress and anxiety.

Sedation Dentistry may well be the solution to your dental anxiety.  Start with a consultation with Dr. Hoe, to find out if you are a good candidate, and allow his team at Bite Dental to take care of your dental needs without the unnecessary stress and anxiety you may have experienced in the past.

Bite Dental is located in the community of Shawnessy in South West Calgary and adheres to the latest sterilization protocols and Sedation Dentistry guidelines. 403.201.2483
